ERS Energy's Quiet Ascent: Malaysia's Solar EPCC Leader Expands Into Grid-Scale BESS
English
- ERS Energy Sdn Bhd has delivered more than 2GWp of solar capacity across the region, completing over 2,000 projects and unlocking approximately US$1.7 billion in clean energy investments
- Gamuda Bhd acquired a 30% stake in ERS Energy for RM200 million in 2022, valuing the company at approximately RM670 million — positioning it among Malaysia's top solar EPCC players
- For context, Bursa Malaysia-listed peers include Solarvest Holdings (~RM2.8 billion market cap), Pekat Group (~RM1.2 billion), and Samaiden Group (~RM760 million)
- ERS Energy secured two of four projects under the Energy Commission's inaugural MyBeST programme for grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Each MyBeST project has a capacity of 100MW/400MWh, with target commissioning in 2027 — one located in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, which has already achieved financial close
- Capital expenditure for each BESS project is estimated at RM300 million, financed through a mix of bank borrowings and equity
- The company completed a 9MWp floating photovoltaic (PV) solar project in Selangor, integrated with a 15MWh BESS — demonstrating hybrid solar-storage capabilities
- ERS Energy is also expanding regionally, now working on its seventh utility-scale solar project in the Philippines
