Malaysia Expands NEM Rakyat Solar Quota by 100MW to Meet Residential Demand
English
- Quota Expansion: The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has officially increased the NEM Rakyat (residential) solar quota by 100MW, raising the total allocation to 600MW.
- Reasoning: The decision follows the rapid exhaustion of the previous quota due to overwhelming public interest and demand for rooftop solar installations.
- Eligibility: This additional capacity is available to all Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) domestic users.
- Deadline: The quota is open until June 30, 2025, or until it is fully subscribed—whichever occurs first.
- Program Benefit: The NEM Rakyat scheme allows homeowners to offset their electricity bills by exporting excess solar energy generated from their rooftop systems back to the grid on a one-on-one offset basis.
