Malaysia Launches First Off-Grid Solar Power Project for Remote Orang Asli Village
English
- Milestone Achievement: Kampung Orang Asli Berasau in Kluang has become the first remote indigenous village in Malaysia to achieve 24-hour electricity access via an independent solar power system.
- Technical Specifications: The project features an off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) system with a 50 kWp capacity, supported by a 516 kWh battery storage unit.
- Infrastructure: Installation includes 85 solar panels that power 25 households, a community hall, and a local activity hub.
- Implementation: Led by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) in collaboration with SEDA and JKR, the project was completed in October 2025, ahead of schedule.
- Community Impact: The transition from expensive, limited-use generators to constant renewable power has significantly improved education for children and enabled better cold-storage capabilities for local fishermen.
