Malaysia Unveils Solar ATAP Programme to Drive Rooftop Solar Adoption
English
- Programme Launch: The Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme (Solar ATAP) officially commenced on January 1, 2026, replacing the previous Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 scheme.
- Core Objective: Designed by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) to maximize rooftop solar generation and support national decarbonization.
- System Capacity: Installations are permitted up to 100% of a consumer's maximum demand, with a technical cap of 1MW.
- Export Mechanism: Participants can export surplus electricity back to the grid. Credits are applied monthly to offset electricity bills, but unlike previous schemes, these credits do not carry over to future months.
- Valuation: Residential export credits are based on energy charge rates, while commercial and industrial users receive credits pegged to the System Marginal Price (SMP).
- Eligibility: Available to TNB-registered electricity users, including residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, provided they meet specific technical assessment requirements.
